The best stories rarely ever make the front page...but then again, sometimes they do. GCAI has been working with the Springfield Housing Authority (SHA) for several years to restore transparency and confidence after damage was done by a corrupt administration. Much of the news resulting from the collaboration were "good news" stories highlighting special events in the lives of SHA residents. Not surprisingly, good news often doesn't get covered. That changed with reporter Stephanie Barry's story in The Republican on 3/10/09 which also led to an editorial highlighting the turn-around success of the SHA. The editorial lauded SHA leadership noting, "Rebuilding a tarnished reputation is not an easy task. That's why we commend the new leaders of the Springfield Housing Authority - an agency that had been riddled with criminal corruption convictions - for repositioning the agency to do the work it is charged to do. After seven grueling years of scrutiny, the agency that helps provide housing for the needy has finally received a clean bill of health from federal housing regulators and is now ready to begin a new unblemished chapter in its history."
GCAI is proud to be part of the turn-around at the SHA - and even happier to be wrong about the suggestion that "the best stories almost never make the front page."
