"Media and Marketing for Middle School" Starts Its Sixth Year

With a presentation on advertising and public relations to Zanetti School seventh graders on May 1st, John Garvey officially kicked off the sixth year of "Media and Marketing for Middle School." The program was started by GCAI in 2004 at the request of an ESL teacher at the Alfred Zanetti Montessori School in Springfield who wanted to expose her students to a variety of career choices. John Garvey and Mary Fallon designed the program to allow students to actually "try out" careers, not only in Advertising and PR, but also newspaper reporting, TV weather and news anchoring, photography and more. Experts in those fields readily accepted GCAI's invites to come to the school as well as arrange tours of their facilities. Reporter Liz Rom'n, of The Republican, returned for a sixth engagement on May 8th and the students will tour the press at the end of the month. Online video is a new presentation this year created by John Garvey and Dave Sweeney of The Communications Department. During this workshop, 8th graders will script a "farewell" video that will be posted on the school's website.
